{"id":9920,"date":"2026-10-06T18:26:16","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T18:26:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cybersecurityinfocus.com\/?p=9920"},"modified":"2026-10-06T18:26:16","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T18:26:16","slug":"fbi-removes-contractor-working-with-its-peoplesoft-system-after-data-breach-says-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cybersecurityinfocus.com\/?p=9920","title":{"rendered":"FBI removes contractor working with its PeopleSoft system after data breach, says report"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div class=\"grid grid--cols-10@md grid--cols-8@lg article-column\">\n<div class=\"col-12 col-10@md col-6@lg col-start-3@lg\">\n<div class=\"article-column__content\">\n<div class=\"container\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has removed an Accenture contractor working on its PeopleSoft installation over their role in a data breach that exposed personal details of FBI employees, Reuters reported Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the first time that anyone other than the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csoonline.com\/article\/4230892\/despite-shinyhunters-arrests-after-fbi-jobs-data-breach-enterprises-still-have-no-answers-about-peoplesoft-risks.html?utm=hybrid_search\">hacker group Shinyhunters that claimed responsibility<\/a> for the breach has linked it to PeopleSoft.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTo date, our review has determined that the incident occurred as the result of a security failure of a platform managed by a third-party organization \u2014 after a contractor failed to implement a security patch explicitly issued to secure the platform,\u201d FBI Cyber Division Assistant Director Brett Leatherman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/accenture-contractor-removed-fbi-following-damaging-data-breach-sources-say-2026-10-06\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told Reuters<\/a>. \u201cAs such, the FBI has removed the contractor and taken all necessary steps to both mitigate any further risk and protect our workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accenture was the third-party organization Leatherman would not identify, \u201ctwo sources familiar with the matter\u201d told Reuters. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for the unnamed, unpatched platform, Reuters\u2019 sources said that was Oracle PeopleSoft, the HR system that hacker group ShinyHunters claimed to have exploited in last month\u2019s break-in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has removed an Accenture contractor working on its PeopleSoft installation over their role in a data breach that exposed personal details of FBI employees, Reuters reported Monday.
