The rally pushed the Chinese manufacturer\u2019s gains this year to nearly 50%, according to CNBC.<\/p>\n<p>The Information first reported that Luxshare is already working on a prototype powered by OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT language models. Sources familiar with the project told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/articles\/openai-raids-apple-hardware-talent-manufacturing-partners\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Information<\/a> that one version under review resembles a screenless smart speaker, with a possible release window in late 2026 or early 2027, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/22\/apple-supplier-luxshare-shares-pop-10percent-on-report-of-openai-hardware-deal.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to CNBC<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If launched, the product would put OpenAI in direct competition with consumer tech leaders like Apple, Google, and Samsung by offering an \u201cAI-native\u201d alternative to smartphones and existing smart speakers.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Apple DNA inside OpenAI\u2019s hardware push<\/h2>\n<p>Earlier this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techrepublic.com\/article\/news-openai-jony-ive-io-acquisition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the OpenAI acquired io Products<\/a>, a startup founded by former Apple design chief Jony Ive, in a deal worth $6.5 billion. Ive, who co-designed the iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and AirPods, is now closely involved in OpenAI\u2019s hardware plans. OpenAI has also recruited Tang Tan, another former Apple executive, to lead its hardware division.<\/p>\n<p>Luxshare is not the only manufacturer in the mix. Goertek, a Chinese manufacturer that produces AirPods, HomePods, and Apple Watches, is reportedly in discussions with OpenAI to provide speaker modules and other components for the upcoming device.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Luxshare\u2019s broader business outlook<\/h2>\n<p>CNBC also reported that Luxshare is considering a secondary Hong Kong listing this year as the company looks to broaden its business beyond Apple.<\/p>\n<p>For OpenAI, the hardware push could create new revenue streams and greater control over how its AI is used. For Luxshare, the partnership offers a chance to work with a rising tech player while reducing its reliance on Apple. If successful, the collaboration could reshape daily interactions with AI.
