{"id":4720,"date":"2025-09-05T16:54:42","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T16:54:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cybersecurityinfocus.com\/?p=4720"},"modified":"2025-09-05T16:54:42","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T16:54:42","slug":"trump-blames-ai-for-video-his-staff-says-is-real-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cybersecurityinfocus.com\/?p=4720","title":{"rendered":"Trump Blames AI for Video His Staff Says Is Real"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A recent video of a person throwing two items out of an upstairs window of the White House sparked discussion about photorealistic AI video.<\/p>\n<p>With companies selling AI tools that can create <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eweek.com\/artificial-intelligence\/best-ai-video-generators\/\">convincing replicas<\/a> of real recordings, the incident highlights concerns about AI attribution and how generative AI could be used to spread misinformation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Viral video showed items thrown out of White House window\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>The video, posted by the account \u201cwashingtonianprobs,\u201d included a caption saying, \u201cOne of our community members noticed some things being thrown out of one of The White House\u2019s windows today.\u201d It appeared on Instagram on Sept. 1.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>White House representatives initially told reporters the footage was legitimate and showed a contractor performing maintenance on the building while the president was not in residence.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump had a different take, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-white-house-window-ai-9dad119bb6de1519582db036dc0726d7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">telling reporters<\/a> the video has \u201cgot to be fake\u201d and \u201cIf something happens that\u2019s really bad, maybe I\u2019ll have to just blame AI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump told Fox News Channel reporter Peter Doocy: \u201cIt\u2019s the kind of thing they do. And one of the problems we have with AI, it\u2019s both good and bad. If something happens really bad, just blame AI. But also they create things, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that White House windows are difficult or impossible to open, saying \u201cnumber one, they\u2019re sealed, and number two, each window weighs about 600 pounds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Reader\u2019s Digest article from January 2025 noted that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rd.com\/list\/things-no-president-allowed-do-in-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the president is not permitted<\/a> to open the White House windows for security reasons.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Generative AI can cause confusion between real and photorealistic content\u00a0\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Generative AI has advanced to a point where it is increasingly difficult to tell real images, audio, or videos from fabricated ones. For example, hiring managers may encounter AI-generated avatars posing as applicants. Threat actors could also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techrepublic.com\/article\/news-black-hat-2025-what-keeps-cyber-experts-up-at-night\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">impersonate company leaders<\/a> using deepfakes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, companies are introducing safeguards such as source citations and digital watermarks to indicate when content has been AI-generated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The recent White House incident underscored a different risk, highlighted by Trump\u2019s remarks: real footage or audio being dismissed as AI-generated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, generative AI in the wrong hands remains a powerful tool for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techrepublic.com\/article\/news-kpmg-ai-survey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spreading misinformation<\/a> at scale.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>xAI\u2019s generative AI Grok tends to repeat <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eweek.com\/news\/musk-grok-ai-neutrality\/\"><strong>political messaging<\/strong><\/a><strong> aligned with Elon Musk\u2019s personal interventions, The New York Times found. <\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eweek.com\/news\/news-white-house-virtual-video\/\">Trump Blames AI for Video His Staff Says Is Real<\/a> appeared first on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eweek.com\/\">eWEEK<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A recent video of a person throwing two items out of an upstairs window of the White House sparked discussion about photorealistic AI video.
