But if you are a man \u2014 especially a white man \u2014 you are likely unaware of the massive obstacles she will face that you didn\u2019t. For women, the path to leadership is littered with obstructions that hard work can\u2019t overcome.<\/p>\n<p>Those obstacles start at the first rung of the ladder. Women remain less likely than men to be hired into entry-level roles, which leaves them underrepresented from the very beginning, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn-static.leanin.org\/women-in-the-workplace\/2024-pdf\">2024 Women in the Workplace<\/a> study. And women are far less likely to get promoted \u2014 a situation that hasn\u2019t changed much <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.com\/article\/191432\/7-challenges-women-face-in-getting-ahead-in-it.html\">over the past several years<\/a>. For every <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/featured-insights\/diversity-and-inclusion\/women-in-the-workplace\">100 men promoted to manager in 2018<\/a>, only 79 women were promoted. In 2024, that number was just 81. This is why men outnumber women at every level. It is why only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/featured-insights\/diversity-and-inclusion\/women-in-the-workplace\">29% of C-suite members are women<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If your daughter is very young, she might see workplace parity in her lifetime \u2014 unless she is black. \u201cIt will take 22 years to reach parity for white women \u2014 and more than twice as long for women of color,\u201d according to the Women in the Workplace study. That means, without any setbacks, we won\u2019t see a workplace that reflects the US population until 2073. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The good news? You can help. If you are aware of the obstacles, you can help make efforts to move them. Women need allies.
